Kuchar Electric designs and builds electrical distribution systems. In the past 15 years we have averaged twelve power trailers per year without outside sales support. The demand in Colorado for quality installations prompted us to develop a switchgear manufacturing facility and market them nationally. We own a 9000 square foot electrical shop and have partnered with Kendo Corporation, a metal fabrication facility for mechanical support. Kuchar Electric has three designers and computer aided design for documentation. Our experience in the maintenance and service field has developed a sound, top quality product with standard features and application design that are proven to work in the rugged rock-mining environment.

Typically, we modify used reefer semi trailers to house a genset, an MCC, and an operator cabin.

The generator room is kept separate from the electrical room by a wall with a door. This reduces noise and dust. The genset room has louvers built into the side of the trailer, sized to keep the genset cool with the proper CFM of air. Because of vibration, the genset is wired via seal tight to EMT conduit into the MCC main.

The electrical room has motor controls mounted along the wall. The starters are wired through the floor to an underslung gutter that houses the motor receptacles. We also quote the plugs for the field cord. We run conduit and pull control wire (120VAC) from the starters to the operator's console. The MCC's have a built in panel board for 120 VAC utility power. The utilities consist of fluorescent lights, light switches and electrical outlets throughout the trailer.

The office, or operator cabin in outfitted with an operator console. The console has a start button, a stop button, a motor run pilot light, and an emergency stop button to shut down the system immediately upon the operator's discretion. An alarm horn, which is also controlled through the operator console, warns employees of a system start-up. The operator cabin has air conditioning, heating and three large windows to overlook your spread. The windows are DOT safety glass and have a 3-degree tilt toward the bottom to prevent dust build up. Kuchar Electric can also supply a pop up operator cabin on request, this cabin has the same features but also uses hydraulics to raise and lower the cabin, the benefit being a better field of view.
